About Us

Our History

✵✵✵✵✵
Hey there. I'm Matt. I founded Unnatural One in mid-2020. At the time, I was working at Amazon in a truck yard, checking in and out truckers. Earlier in 2020, when COVID hit, I got sick pretty quickly, likely because of having to closely interact with people who drive across the entire country. I was out for about five weeks. During that time, I spent most of my waking hours watching YouTube until the fever finally broke. Among those was a video on making dice. When I finally got back to work, I was talking with a work friend who also played D&D, and in the discussion dice-making came up. While performing a yard check with him, we both lamented that there just aren't that many sets out there that we liked. At that moment, an idea was sparked, and as a joke I came up with Unnatural One as a company name as a play on natural twenty.
As the year wore on, I started gathering supplies and testing various methods, learning more and more as I went. Eventually in my experimenting I made the first Necromancer set, and upon showing everyone, they convinced me to open a shop and try selling. I was convinced that I would just make a few dollars a month and have it as a side thing, but it quickly defied my own expectations. It became impossible for me to keep working both my overnight shift at Amazon as well as making dice! I kept up both for as long as I could. One day, it all became too much and I made a choice, with dice-making becoming my full-time job.
Within a month, even by myself, I had to expand. I hired on one of my friends, we'll call him K., and together we worked by ourselves for nearly a year before we had to expand again. We hired on his father as well as a neighbor. This carried on through 2021, working out of my basement, until it came time to expand again. Late in 2021, we gathered together and sectioned off part of the garage, building a room out of wood and drywall. This would be our workshop, and where we've been since the start of 2022. Where we go from here, we do not yet know, but we all feel that one day we will outgrow that room too.
